Basement & Aboveground Tank Removal in Westchester County
Converting from oil to gas, or replacing a rusting tank? An aboveground tank still has to be emptied, cleaned and disposed of properly, and the fill and vent lines dealt with.
Signs you need this
- You converted to gas and the old tank is still in the basement
- Rust, weeping or wet spots on the tank
- Bent or wobbly tank legs
- Oil smell near the tank
What to know
- State rules require aboveground heating oil tanks to be emptied, cleaned and purged of all vapors before removal.
- Some Westchester villages require an inspection for any tank removal. In Croton-on-Hudson, the plumbing inspector does a final inspection.
- The NYS DEC lists warning signs on aboveground tanks: rust, weeping, wet spots, wobbly legs and drips at the filter.
- Removing the outside fill pipe avoids an oil delivery going into a tank that is no longer there.
